Both Fogón rooms are in Palermo, the sprawling northern barrio that most visitors treat as their base — the original on Uriarte street in Palermo Soho, the second in Palermo Viejo. It's the part of the city with the densest concentration of restaurants, cocktail bars, boutiques and leafy streets, and it's a short taxi from Recoleta or the centre and on the D line of the Subte.
An afternoon in Palermo Soho
The blocks around Plaza Serrano and Plaza Armenia are the classic Palermo Soho afternoon: independent boutiques, street art on the corners, cafés for a coffee and a medialuna, and the weekend market on the plaza. It's an easy, low-effort couple of hours before a dinner seating, and you can walk to the restaurant when the time comes.
The parks, for a lunch seating
If you've booked the 12:30 seating, the Bosques de Palermo — the city's great park with its lakes, rose garden and planetarium — are the natural place to walk off nine courses. The Japanese Garden and the MALBA museum of Latin American art are both in the same broad area, so a lunch tasting followed by a slow park-and-museum afternoon makes a very good day.
After the dinner seating
A 20:00 seating ends a little after ten, which in Buenos Aires is when the evening starts. Palermo's cocktail bars — several regularly named among the best in the world — are minutes away, and the neighbourhood stays lively late. You won't want more food, but a last drink in a bar a few blocks from the fire is the right way to end it.
